Me a Big Girl now

So I celebrated my bday this past week and did a lot of exciting big girl stuff. Even though I have officially celebrated my big girl bday years ago, I am just not living the big girl life. 

My girlfriends drove five hours to celebrate with me, we went to an outside concert and a July bday party on Thursday, drove two hours away on Friday to spend money at this new Casino is StL, cat napped at a hotel for four hours then went to the St. Louis Zoo Saturday afternoon, drove back two hours for a get together with my Phrat Brothers then had a big yummy breakfast Sunday morning before their departure Sunday evening. 

It was so fun and adult-like that I'm putting this years bday celebration on my top three list. I have been having way too much fun with my life so I have been neglecting my blog and I honestly did not want to write about my daily going-ons so I opted to wait for an important event to discuss. 

This was my first real experience at a Casino because the first time I went, I was smuggled in by my girlfriend's Mother in Wisconsin and was too scared to spend a dime. So this time I thought I would go all out but only ended up spending $6 because I did not understand the rules of the slot machines. Spending $6 at a Casino might be laughable to some but I had a blast watching one of my friends lose $30 and the other friend gain $30. 

I only wish we could take photos in the Casino because there would have been some funnies to document. First my girlfriend who won the $30 was going to cash out when she paused at the circular counter and asked if she had to go to the window corresponding to her last name. My other girlfriend and I were puzzled until we looked up at the letters above the window spatially spelling out the word Cashier. hahaha that "Baby" is such an air head. 

Then on our way to the restroom, this security guard ran up on us saying how happy she was to run into us because she needed to check someone's ID. I graciously obligated while she fumbled with her glasses, calling the location in when my two girlfriends asked if she could check any faster because they had to potty... that of course made her panic, fumble and slow down even more. As they were doing the pee pee dance I was laughing at how proud I was to be old enough to be getting carded in a Casino.

Thanks Don I did have a good time. My friend is a little slow at times but we still love her to pieces, and ain't that a real breakfast? lol

Torrance: I don't think I'll be at gambler anonymous quite yet seeing as how I only spent $6 but it's a possibility, lol.

Don: My friends were like watch the meat, watch the meat but I like it burnt too. I burnt some of the potatoes too because I like the burnt flavor. It's definitely an acquired taste.

My preteen daughter called me bruh the other day. Lets let that sit there for a minute.  Okay so scene: She was fussing via text at me about having phone screen time on the weekend. That its not fair because she is the only one with it, when all she wants to do is play group chat games with her little raggedy tail friends. For those of you who don't know: screen time is a feature embedded into your updated iPhone and apple devices, used to monitor the way you use your device. You can use screen time to get information about what you and your family members spend time on your devices, which apps and websites you use, how often you pick up your device, in a given day or even hour. You can also schedule time away from your screen, set time limits for certain app usage and block calls from certain people during certain times. So now that you know what her issue is, now hear my issue: I wouldn't care if she was talking to a family member at 11:58pm... once that Midnight screen time

Tunnel Vision

Last week a fellow journalist died in a car accident. A lot of people at my job knew him as a kid from SIUC who died in that terrible accident the other day but I actually knew that kid, Ryan Rendleman. I went to school with him, I worked with him at the school newspaper and most times I talked about him on the phone with my girlfriend because that Rendleman was truly a trip.  His passing made me realize how quickly our lives can be taken away from us and how I really haven't done much to contribute to society, or to my obituary if I were to die today.  When I hear about someone my age or younger being pregnant, getting married or doing something that I would consider a grown up act, I gawk at how advanced they are, in a negative way, when I should really be getting just like them because life is so short!  I am in my early 20's, just graduated from college, have never lived out of Illinois, have never smoked, don't have any tattoos, interesting piercings or children.  This

One nice hot summer day, as you're minding your own business, sitting on the couch twiddling your braids between your fingers, listening to a little r&b, your favorite cousin calls to tell you that she is getting married next year and she would love for you to be her Maid of Honor.  You hop up, yelling Congratulations, OMGee of course I will favorite cousin, I would do anything for you! Thank you so much for choosing me! Where do we start!?  She calmly says, "I'm so glad to hear you say that favorite cousin, because in order to fit the dress I have in mind, you'll have to lose 40 pounds."  The music seems to abruptly stop.
